I WANT YOU TO WANT ME

BUT I NEED YOU TO NEED ME

Friday was the 4th of July celebration at Memorial Park.  The live entertainment was provided by .38 Special and Cheap Trick (as if you wouldn’t have guessed by now) and the park was quite full despite the heat.  I don’t know about other cities and towns in ‘fly-over’ country (not counting my experience at Ft. Riley... sometimes not remembering everything works out just fine!) but Omaha does deserve its designation as a ‘metropolitan’ area.  Maybe the shows are second-run but there is a vibrant night life and decent museums as well.

Originally I had not intended on attending the celebration, with the heat and my anxieties being good enough reasons not to go.  But Nebraska suggested I go and get a good feel for the people in Omaha.  The crowd was festive yet orderly, and the only spot of observable trouble was when the police took a lady who may have been inspired by Gretchen Wilson away.  When Cheap Trick took the stage I was able to relax enough to stand between the Bank of the West’s tent, who helped sponsor the event, and the first aid tent, which was manned but the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

There was another woman that I picked up on who was working the tent for the Bank of the West.  Similar to the young lady who gave me her number, I did not receive any ‘fixed’ readings from her, and I let that possibility slide.

…THEN WITH FRIDAY ON MY MIND

Because the Old Market is a lively place, I went down in the early evening and sat in Scooter’s on Saturday before I went to the gym. I was relaxed, drinking coffee and reading The Onion before heading to work out.  As I was doing my thing, an extended family came in, looked like there were kids, Grammy’s, and perhaps a husband among the children and other women.  Too bad I did not pay more attention because a few minutes after they took their order and left, one of the women, an Aunt came back into the café and handed me a business card.  Apparently her niece or whoever took a shine to me and afterwards decided to take a flier on a brother… doesn’t mean I am going to contact her, but I am jus’ sayin’.

I don’t want anyone to think that I am so self-absorbed that I believe that I ‘got it like that’.  What I do know is ‘what I got’ and how what I have is valued on the market.  Not to mention I have had my share of ‘aborted missions’ as well as bad targeting that eventually lead to all manner of boondoggles.  Trust me when I say that I am cool sitting where I am right now, which is alone.  Anywho, the current marketplace is still bullish on attractive, light-skinned (or brown-skinned, I ain’t picky!) brothers who are able to string together complete sentence when talking about their emotions.  Besides, a relationship is something that is in addition, and not the sum of, why I am in Omaha.

EPILOGUE

Over the weekend several people who I feel close to, online and my tangible life, are going though challenges and I would like for those who are willing to send out good vibes to, ‘Mark’s friends’.  Those thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!!

be well. i liked how you put the relationship thing as an addition and not the end result.

I read "Besides, a relationship is something that is in addition" as "a relationship is something that is an ADDICTION" and I said Amen.

I believe the quote is
"No man is an island".

Nor should he be.

You have so much to give - to share - there is so much you could teach and be taught.

Holding yourself at a distance could be thought of as being selfish - and that is not an attribute I associate with you.

Each relationship entered into becomes a chapter in your 'book' - but a chapter in someone else's, as well. The more chapters, the more rounded the person - the better the 'book' for reading.

Share yourself - you are worth it.

glad to hear you went out to the Fourth celebration, Mark; I think it is always good to see what the town has to offer for events like this; get a feel for it so to speak.

That was interesting about the card at the coffee shop; I have to say a rather bold gesture on the part of the family!

stay cool if you can!
