At the ti...My mom taught 7th grade math for years. At the time she taught, about 1/3 of her students left school after the 8th grade. We have a lot of migrant farm workers, and that's the age they take their kids out of school and put them to work in the fields.<br /><br />Knowing that, my mom tried to take one six-week period to teach them life skills: how to balance a checkbook, how a credit card works, how interest accumulates, how to fill out a tax return; all things people need to know.<br /><br />So many parents complained that the school made her stop! They thought it was inappropriate to teach such adult topic to children.<br /><br />So much for making education meaningful.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
